#8MarchEveryDay

Teaching materials for the International Women’s Day

On 8 March, the City of Women annually prepares teaching materials for parents, youth workers and teachers who work with young people between the ages of fourteen and twenty. By structuring a 45-minute lesson entitled #8MarchEveryDay, we encourage them to address the social, political and economic causes for gender inequality, but also celebrate women’s achievements and learn about the long history of struggles for women’s rights.

Since 2018, we have been designing the #EveryDay8March lesson as a quiz. It consists of a series of questions that assess the general knowledge of young people and expand their understanding of important historical and contemporary figures, organized struggles for equality, achieved women's rights, and areas where gender inequality remains or is becoming more pressing.

The central goal of the lesson (45 minutes) is to encourage active discussion among young people. They can compete in groups in the quiz, and both the quiz and subsequent discussion are aimed at promoting their participation.

In addition to the quiz questions, the material includes correct answers, explanations for the answers, and prompts that can be used to connect the discussion on individual questions to the material covered. Above all, it aims to deepen the discussion among young people on various aspects of gender (in)equality.

If you need the material in a different format (e.g., PowerPoint), require additional information, or would like the creators of this creative and dynamic lesson to conduct it at your institution, please contact Sara Šabec, head of cultural and artistic education at City of Women: sara.sabec@cityofwomen.org.
